Sunday July 13th

The coach left early from our hotel in Aix-les-Bains so we could get an early start.  Those on bikes unloaded a few miles east of Grenoble.  We began our ride about 0930 and I've never seen so much traffic going to a sporting event.   The line of cars extended almost 30 miles.  Cars were at a dead standstill.  After about 1 1/2 hours of slight uphill riding, we headed up to Alpe d'Huez.  

This is the Mecca of Cycling and we were there with a million others. Basque climber Ivan Mayo won the stage.
